Bruce's Custom Colors

hobby Colorobbia’s glaze series consists of transparent, matte, satin, crackle, and art glazes. Most of them are non-toxic and dinnerware safe. You may refer to the labels on individual colors or on the price list for such identification. The recommended firing temperature is cone 05-07. The glazes are categorized as transparent (T), transparent colored (TC), opaque (O), and semi-opaque (SO).

Transparent (T)

Clear Transparent Gloss (HC-0001), Transparent Matte (HC-0145), and Gloss Krackle (HC-0012) can be applied by themselves on mature bisque or over engobes, or Bisque Stroke® underglazes. This will enhance the brightness of the colors.

Transparent Colored (TC)

These glazes are used by themselves on embossed items as they will self antique the piece, leaving the color darker in the crevices. These are also used over Bisque Stroke® underglazes and engobes to add a tint of color, yet allowing the design to show through.

Opaque (O)

These glazes are usually recommended when a solid color is desired on plain or slightly embossed ware.

Semi-Opaque (SO)

These glazes are used when solid coverage is required on plain items. More care is required in application to achieve a smooth solid coverage. If these glazes are used on highly embossed ware, they will self-antique.

PREPARATION

Shake and stir glaze well before use. If thinning should be necessary, add a small amount of water and remix. Apply 2-3 coats of glaze depending upon the effect desired to properly mature bisque to witness cone 04. Allow to dry and then fire to witness cone 05-07.

METHOD OF APPLICATION AND USE

Brush: When applying glaze by brush make sure the brush is well saturated with color. The best method for properly loading your brush is to pour the well mixed glaze onto a tile and work brush in the glaze until completely loaded. Glaze should be flowed on to the surface of the mature bisque witness cone 04 and brushed out lightly to prevent uneven application. Apply 2-3 coats allowing glaze to dry slightly between coats and fire to witness cone 05-07.

Sponging: Make sure the sponge is slightly damp. Pour well mix glaze onto a tile. Work sponge into an up and down motion to saturate. Pounce (up and down method) 2-3 coats of glaze, allowing drying between coats onto mature witness cone 04 bisque. Fire piece to witness cone 05-07.
