| hobby COLOROBBIAs Florentine Design Glazes are concentrated, non-toxic,
Dinnerware-safe glazes developed for application on mature bisque. They are the ultimate,
one-fire decorating medium, developed for design work or for solid coverage. Most of the
colors are opaque with a three-coat application. When the Florentine Design Glazes (FDGs)
are used for design work, where one or two applications are applied, a transparent glaze,
(either dipping or brushing) is applied over them to achieve complete glazing. When three
coats of FDG color are applied they do not require an additional transparent glazing. All
the Florentine Design Glazes are gloss glazes. The color pigments used in these glazes are
strong enough for them to be used as a wash, and still hold the color. These strong,
vibrant glaze colors bear the richness and depth only a glaze can produce. By intermixing
the colors, you can create an entirely new palette of striking colors. All Florentine
Design Glazes are overglaze compatible with or without clear glaze over them. Try C/A
Gold, Galaxy Gold, Platinum, Iris or color lustres with this series for beautiful results.hobby COLOROBBIAs FDG-0500 Detailing Black and FDG-0500A Detailing Brown are specially
designed for outlining and detailing. They were originally designed for use with the
Florentine Design Glazes to achieve fine precise outlines and detailing, which stay sharp
after glazing and firing. They work just as well for outlining and detailing any underglaze
or glaze work designs, as well as for solid coverage; two coats are all that is needed, then
glaze with a transparent glaze and fire.
PREPARATION: Shake well, then squeeze out onto a palette and apply 1, 2, or 3
coats, depending upon depth of color desired, to mature bisque and allow drying. If
thinning should be required just add a few drops of water and mix.
WARE PREPARATION: Working on bisque, lightly wipe piece (s) down with a damp sponge to
remove dust, and to add a bit of moisture so the color will flow on smoothly.
BRUSH WORK: Florentine Design Glaze colors are perfect for full brush application and
multi-color brush loading where shaded strokes are desired. When these colors are used for
design work or brushwork, transparent glaze is applied over the pieces to glaze the
background areas.
SPONGING: Squeeze color onto a palette (glazed tile) or into a shallow container. Solid coverage: dip a slightly dampened sponge into the color and pounce three to four
even coats onto the surface of the ware using a pouncing method. Allowing the water sheen
to disappear between coats, glazing with transparent glaze is not necessary for the solid
application. For veiling: Dip slightly dampened sponge into the color and then lightly
pounce sponge onto a clean section of the palette to remove some of the color, which will
open the pours of the sponge. Then lightly pounce the sponge to the surface of the ware
leaving a veiling of color only one application is used for veiling unless a two-tone
effect is desired, allow to dry apply glaze and fire.
ANTIQUING: Mix the Florentine Design Glaze with water to achieve milk like consistency.
Apply conditioned color to mature bisque using a large a brush as possible. Use a clean,
damp sponge to wipe the piece down, leaving the color in the crevices. Keep the sponge
clean at all times to insure clean highlights. When piece is dry glaze with transparent
clear or transparent colored glaze and fire to the maturing temperature of the glaze.
ROLL GLAZING: Florentine Design Glazes can easily be used for roll glazing. Thin two thirds glaze to one-third water and proceed to roll. |
